{"msg": "736\nAXNT20 KNHC 190935\nTWDAT\nTropical Weather Discussion\nNWS National Hurricane Center Miami FL\n1215 UTC Wed Aug 19 2026\nTropical Weather Discussion for North America, Central America\nGulf of America, Caribbean Sea, northern sections of South\nAmerica, and Atlantic Ocean to the African coast from the\nEquator to 31N. The following information is based on satellite\nimagery, weather observations, radar and meteorological analysis.\nBased on 0600 UTC surface analysis and satellite imagery through \n0925 UTC.\n...TROPICAL WAVES...\nAn eastern Atlantic tropical wave has its axis along 30W, south \nof 17N, moving westward at 10 to 15 kt. Scattered moderate \nconvection is observed from 05N to 12N and between 23W and 33W.\nA central Atlantic tropical wave has its axis near 48W, south of \n18N, moving westward at 10 to 15 kt. No significant convection is\nassociated with this wave at this time.\nAn eastern Caribbean tropical wave has its axis near 67W, south \nof 18N, moving westward at 10 to 15 kt. No significant convection is\nassociated with this wave at this time.\n...MONSOON TROUGH/ITCZ...\nThe monsoon trough enters the Atlantic through the coast of\nGuinea-Bissau near 12N16W and continues southwestward to 09N30W \nand to 09N49W. The ITCZ extends from 09N49W to 09N59W. Scattered \nmoderate to isolated strong convection is evident from 04N to 15N\nand east of 33W.\n...GULF OF AMERICA...\nA weak high pressure pattern forces gentle to moderate\nanticyclonic winds and slight to moderate seas across much of the\nGulf waters. Locally fresh easterly winds are found in the eastern\nBay of Campeche. A few showers and isolated thunderstorms are\nfound in the NE Gulf and Bay of Campeche. Dry weather conditions\nare prevalent in the remainder of the basin.\nFor the forecast, high pressure will prevail across the Gulf waters\nthrough the forecast period. A weak pressure pattern will\nsupport mostly gentle to moderate winds and slight to locally\nmoderate seas across much of the basin. A diurnally induced \nsurface trough will generate fresh to locally strong winds north \nand west of the Yucatan peninsula early each evening. These winds \nwill spread westward away from the Yucatan at night as the trough \nmigrates into the SW Gulf. \n...CARIBBEAN SEA...\nThe subtropical ridge centered north of the Caribbean is\nsupporting fresh to locally strong easterly trade winds and seas \nof 5-8 ft in the south-central Caribbean. Moderate to fresh\neasterly winds and moderate seas are evident in the north-central\nand eastern Caribbean. Light to gentle winds and slight to \nmoderate seas are found elsewhere. A few showers and isolated\nthunderstorms are seen in the SW Caribbean, while dry weather\nconditions prevail in the remainder of the basin.\nFor the forecast, a tight pressure gradient between a subtropical\nridge north of the area and the Colombian low will support fresh \nto strong easterly trade winds and rough seas across the south- \ncentral Caribbean through much of the forecast period. Moderate to\nfresh trades and moderate seas will prevail in the north-central \nand eastern Caribbean into the weekend. Elsewhere, moderate or \nlighter winds and slight to moderate seas are expected. \n...ATLANTIC OCEAN...\nA frontal boundary remains stationary from 31N50W to a 1015 mb \nlow pres near 28N63W, followed by a dissipating stationary front.\nScattered showers and isolated thunderstorms are affecting the\nwaters near and ahead of these boundaries. The rest of the SW\nNorth Atlantic, west of 55W, is under the influence of a high\npressure system that supports moderate or weaker winds and\nmoderate seas. \nThe central and eastern tropical Atlantic are dominated by broad \nridging that sustains moderate or lighter winds and moderate seas.\nHowever, fresh NE winds are present north of the monsoon trough \nto 27N and east of 30W. \nFor the forecast west of 55W, the aforementioned frontal boundaries\nwill weaken to a frontal trough today. Elsewhere, weak pressure \ngradient will support mainly light to gentle winds, locally \nmoderate, across much of the area north of 22N through the week \nand into the weekend. Moderate to locally fresh easterly winds can\nbe expected south of 22N, especially off northern Hispaniola. \n", "title": "Atlantic Tropical Weather Discussion", "id": "1202788199106314247", "issued": "2026-08-19T12:15:00Z", "wmo": "AXNT20", "source": "NOAA/NWS National Hurricane Center, received via the National Weather Wire Service", "page": "https://hurricane.terrapin.com/text/1202788199106314247"}
