{"msg": "606\nAXPZ20 KNHC 130345\nTWDEP \nTropical Weather Discussion\nNWS National Hurricane Center Miami FL\n0405 UTC Thu Aug 13 2026\nTropical Weather Discussion for the eastern Pacific Ocean from\n03.4S to 30N, east of 120W including the Gulf of California, and\nfrom the Equator to 30N, between 120W and 140W. The following\ninformation is based on satellite imagery, weather observations,\nradar, and meteorological analysis.\nBased on 0000 UTC surface analysis and satellite imagery through\n0300 UTC.\n...SPECIAL FEATURES...\nNewly formed Tropical Depression Eight-E is centered near 18.1N \n131.7W at 13/0300 UTC, moving west-northwest at 6 kt. Estimated \nminimum central pressure is 1006 mb. Maximum sustained wind speed\nis 30 kt with gusts to 40 kt. Eight-E may intensify to a tropical\nstorm early Thu and meander to the southwest through late Thu.\nEight-E is expected to diminish thereafter as drier air moves\ninto the area, and Eight-E may become a remnant low through Fri.\nMaximum seas may be reaching 10 ft within 60 nm of the center in\nthe northwest quadrant, and may peak to 12 ft Thu. Scattered\nmoderate convection is active within 60 nm of the center of\nEight-E.\nPlease read the latest High Seas Forecast issued by the National\nHurricane Center at website - \nhttps://www.nhc.noaa.gov/text/MIAHSFEP2.shtml and the latest \nEight-E NHC Forecast/Advisory and Public Advisory at \nwww.hurricanes.gov for more details.\nPotential Tropical Cyclone One-C is centered west of the\ndiscussion area near 14.8N 143.5W at 13/0300 UTC, moving west at\n8 kt. Estimated minimum central pressure is 1002 mb. Maximum \nsustained wind speed is 35 kt with gusts to 45 kt. Winds to \ntropical storm strength and seas to 13 ft are on the eastern \nperiphery of PTC One-C, impacting the waters east of 140W from \n12N to 17N between 137W and 140W. Winds and seas will diminish in\nthis area over the next couple of hours as PTC One-C shifts more\nwestward. \nPlease read the latest NHC Public Advisory at \nhttps://www.nhc.noaa.gov/text/HFOTCPCP2.shtml and Forecast/ \nAdvisory at https://www.nhc.noaa.gov/text/HFOTCMCP2.shtml for \nmore details.\n...TROPICAL WAVES...\nThe axis of a tropical wave is near 90W north of 02N, moving \nwest at 10 to 15 kt. Nearby convection is discussed in the \nITCZ/monsoon trough section below.\nThe axis of a tropical wave is near 123W from 02N to 18N, moving\nwestward at 10 to 15 kt. Nearby convection is discussed in the \nITCZ/monsoon trough section below.\n...INTERTROPICAL CONVERGENCE ZONE/MONSOON TROUGH...\nThe monsoon trough extends from 09N84W to 03N100W. The ITCZ\nextends from 08N100W to 09N118W. Scattered moderate to isolated\nstrong convection is from 04N to 10N between 85W and 100W.\nScattered moderate convection is from 09N to 13N between 100W and\n110W. \n...OFFSHORE WATERS WITHIN 250 NM OF MEXICO...\nFresh to strong winds prevail over the Gulf of Tehuantepec. \nGentle to moderate winds are found elsewhere. Moderate seas are \nover the open waters off Mexico, with slight to moderate seas \nover the Gulf of California.\nFor the forecast, fresh to strong gap winds are expected across \nthe Gulf of Tehuantepec through early next week. The pressure \ngradient between high pressure west of the area and lower \npressures over northern Mexico will support moderate to locally \nfresh southerly winds across the northern Gulf of California \ntonight into Thu, then again on Thu night. A moderate pressure \ngradient will promote mostly gentle to moderate winds across the \nremainder offshore waters of Mexico along with moderate seas.\n...OFFSHORE WATERS WITHIN 250 NM OF CENTRAL AMERICA, COLOMBIA, \nAND WITHIN 750 NM OF ECUADOR...\nFresh to locally strong E gap winds, and moderate seas, persist \nacross and downstream the Gulf of Papagayo. Gentle to moderate \nwinds and moderate seas in SW swell prevail elsewhere. \nFor the forecast, moderate to fresh NE to E gap winds and \noccasionally rough seas will pulse across the Papagayo region. \nGentle to moderate winds will prevail between the Galapagos \nIslands and Ecuador, with large southerly swell moving into the \nregion starting Thu night. Light to gentle winds and moderate \nseas in SW swell are expected elsewhere.\n...REMAINDER OF THE AREA...\nPlease see Special Features section above for more on newly \nformed Tropical Depression Eight-E and on Potential Tropical \nCyclone One-E. \nBroad ridging dominates the waters north of 20N. Outside of the\narea impacted by PTC One-C, the pressure gradient between the \narea of high pressure and Eight-E is supporting fresh to locally \nstrong winds, and rough seas, from 15N to 22N between 130W and \n140W. Rough seas in southerly swell cover the waters S of 05N \nbetween 105W and 130W. Gentle to moderate winds, and moderate \nseas prevail elsewhere.\nFor the forecast, please see Special Features section above for\nmore on Eight-E and PTC One-C. Elsewhere, the southerly swell \nwill maintain rough seas over the discussion waters S of 05N \nbetween 95W and 130W through the end of the week.\n", "title": "Eastern Pacific Tropical Weather Discussion", "id": "1201020360611135495", "issued": "2026-08-13T04:05:00Z", "wmo": "AXPZ20", "source": "NOAA/NWS National Hurricane Center, received via the National Weather Wire Service", "page": "https://hurricane.terrapin.com/text/1201020360611135495"}
